How accurate is the Garrard 301 serial heuristic?

It is a community mean of roughly 7,000 units a year, and its own source calls it "a bit of guess work" — expect a year or two, never a date.

What are the 301 schedules?

Schedule 1 (51400/1) is the grease-bearing 1953–57 run; Schedule 2 (51400/2) is the oil-bearing run to about 1965. The schedule is the dating evidence.
