Marantz changed its numbering system four or five times between 1954 and 1980, so there is no single rule. The tube-era icons and the early 22xx receivers can be read from the sequential count together with the regional starting points; later units carry no calendar in the number at all.

34 Marantz models are catalogued with their production years, specs and safety notes.
Browse the models →Only partly: the tube icons have official years (Model 1 in 1954, Model 7 in 1958, Model 9 in 1960), and receivers are best dated by the chassis stamp — the serial alone carries no full calendar.
A stamped group on the chassis read as year first: 77 9 8 reads 1977. It is the strongest witness on a 22xx receiver when it survives a rebuild.
Four numbering systems (the sequential Model 1, M2 production runs, regional starts, the 2235/2250B pair) have no documented year on any row — the archive says so instead of extrapolating.
